Loma de Cabrera

This town now has two municipal districts that are the borough of Capotillo and the municipal district of Santiago de la Cruz, the latter created in 2006 and began operations in 2007.

In 1998 the son of Miguel Peguero, Miguel Peguero Fermina founded the Internet Type newspaper.  This newspaper contains both community and world news.
Excel breeding cattle for sale. Milk production is an activity that produces more than three hundred thousand liters a month.

In agriculture highlights are the bitter cassava plant for the production of Loma de Cabreracassava, a major annual planting area of cassava has been erected for this purpose. Also the planting of peanuts generates millions of pesos annually.   Other crops are coffee, cocoa, tangerine, banana, Guinea, chinola etc.  As well as mango fruit, orange, avocado, pineapple, coconut, guava, etc.
LCCU
This is the major financial institution that finances the trade and all economic activity in the Global Cooperative, which has over six thousand members.  It provides several million pesos per year. This cooperative is present throughout the province of Dajabon.  It’s headquarters and branches in this municipality are in El Pino, Dajabon, Door and Floor Restoration.

Education

In this town there are several schools of public education, a private school for primary and secondary education, and a secondary school.   Schools in urban areas are: Rafael Diaz Nies The Escape, which has the largest student population and has a modern computer lab; Quisqueya School, located in the neighborhood of North School and the School Sabaneta La Ceiba.

El Colegio Instituto Simon Bolivar, is an educational institution which has the complete educational cycle, from kindergarten through to the 4th year of high school.  It is privately owned, and its graduates emerge with business ideas, since their high school program is based on Business.   Another school that hosts the majority of high school students is the Liceo General Jose Cabrera, a public school.
History

Loma de Cabrera is part of what was the chiefdom of Mary, one of five divisions that split the island at the time of the invasion of the Spaniards in 1492. The area was the scene of constant struggles that followed between Spaniards, Aboriginal, French, African and other minority groups.

Tourism

This town is nestled in the lower parts of the Cordillera Central, ecotourism has great potential because it has different spas and beauty of rivers.

Spas
300 meters from the city center is the Balneario El Salto (Slaughter or Dajabon Rio), which is visited by many tourists throughout the year. Other major resorts are Baden, Bridge, Charco Largo, the Charco Chiva, La Junta and Charco Nonita.

Nature

Chacuey the hill at the north of the municipality has small streams that flow into the Arroyo Azul (Cerro de Chacuey).  This is known as the River Slaughter.   This hill has a large forest of conifers, especially pine (Pinus occidentalis), which are at the bottom and are burned by the peasants of the area.
