La Vega Concepcion

The city of La Vega Concepcion is the capital of the province of La Vega in the Dominican Republic and is the third largest city in the Dominican Republic in La Vega Concepcioneconomy, population, industry, transport and other factors.  It’s located in the center, north of the country, in the valley of the Vega Real, in the upper valley of the River Camu.  It was founded in the year 1490 by Christopher Columbus, but moved after a major earthquake in the year 1560.

The climate in the city is warm and humid.  It’s business was based on agriculture of their fertile land, livestock and logging in the mountains, but its economy has become dependent on a commercial and industrial economy, although much is still reflected in agriculture, as every day they are disappearing because they are being used to convert them into housing and commercial areas. Local industries are derived from the production of products including: coffee; cacao; food; textiles and alcoholic beverages.

It was founded probably in 1495 by Christopher Columbus, but moved after a major earthquake in the years 1560.   The city has received the award for ”Cultured and Olympic City.”   Two Ex-Presidents of the republic were born here as well as both Bocsh Don Juan and Antonio Guzman Fernandez (both deceased).

Population estimates have risen from 189,000 inhabitants in 1995 to 241,000 in 2000, 385,500 (2003), 415,500 in (2005).  The vast majority of immigrants come from rural areas and surrounding towns such as Bonao, Moca, Cotui, Jarabacoa, Constanza, Jima, Villa Tapia, Fantino, Angelina, Pimentel, Piedra Blanca and others.   This is because the city offers various sources of employment such as industry and services.  It’s also a good city for both entertainment and business for the residents of the city.
Business

Business is based on the agriculture of their fertile land, livestock and logging in the mountains. Local industries are derived from the production of products, including coffee, cacao, food, textiles, alcoholic beverages, food processing, building materials, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, perfumes, shoes and more.

Service sector activity is focused on supermarkets, major shopping centers and a variety of establishments.  The city is growing rapidly in population, economy, urban sprawl, industry, the real estate sector and the expansion of urban areas.

Attractions

In the city is the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. There is a regional airport in the municipality as well as the church of the holy hill and the ruins of the old valley.
