Altos de Chavon

Altos de Chavon is an old Mediterranean-type villa built on a height above the Chavon River, in the Dominican Republic. It is home to a Cultural Center, the National Archaeological Museum, and the so-called City of Artists. It also has a very good Amphitheater.

Its construction began in 1976.  Charles Bludhorn, president of an American company, had the idea of using the stones to build a sixteenth-century Altos de ChavonMediterranean village. The popular rumor says he gave a gift for his daughter on her birthday, but she, living in Altos de Chavon, denies the story.
The construction was entrusted to Italia, Roberto Copa who reflected a medieval Italian town. The Chavon river, on which the city has a magnificent panoramic view, was the setting chosen for the recording of some famous movies such as Apocalypse Now. Currently the town receives thousands of visitors every day with tourists from Punta Cana and Altos de Chavon.  There are also non profit tourist attractions.

It has a design school, in which you can learn Fashion Design, Graphic and Digital Fine Art and Illustration.
They have an interim program twice a year, in spring and summer. These programs are divided into technical courses of 2 weeks, taught by the same teachers from the school and/or guest artists.

The design school is affiliated with Parsons School of Design in New York and other design schools located in France and Japan.
