Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is found on the island of Hispaniola which is a part Beach dominican republicof the Greater Antilles region in the Caribbean.   A third of this island is occupied by Haiti and the other two thirds is occupied by the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is the second largest nation in the Caribbean with a population of 10 million people and a total area of 48,442km.  It is also the second largest tourist location in the Caribbean after Puerto Rico and is known for their golf courses which are open year round to tourists.

In 2008 tourism accounted for 14.4% of the employment in the country meaning that visitors will enjoy plenty of activities and wide acceptance since the people of the island are well aware of the important role tourists play in their economy.

The cuisine of the area is a delight and it is worth it to sample the delicacies of the region while visiting.  The food can best be described as a blend of Spanish and African dishes and includes a large amount of beans, rice, cheese, and meat.  Most meals are additionally dressed with vegetables and salad.

While on holiday in Dominican Republic there are three main things that you will want to do, play a round on some of the best golf courses in the world, stroll down the beautiful tropical beaches, and spend a night in the gaming casinos that the island is known for.  If you need more to do there are plenty of shops, historical sites, and adventure sports to participate in from sailing to canoe tours to a plethora of other options.

Outside of the casinos, the Dominican Republic is known for its vibrant nightlife with clubs that stay open until dawn playing both the best current dance mixes and the flavored sounds of the region.  Dance is very important to those who live in the Dominican Republic and if you have a bit more time you may want to take a class or two in the local meringue and bachata styles of dance.

Those in search of scenic untouched exotic views may also want to any one of the 19 national parks, 32 natural monuments, or two marine sanctuaries that are located throughout the general region of the Dominican Republic making it easy to step into nature regardless of where you are staying.
